Russell Falder and Jake Martin braved the almost freezing temperatures to ride the road season opening classic Perfs Road Race today.
In a race controlled by the new UCI Continental Team UK Youth attacks by both Cycle Premier riders were always going to be difficult.
As the field strung out into a single line in the final kilometers Russell managed to hang on for 13th place. He said afterwards,
"I'm pretty pleased with that. Its only February and its shown me where I need to improve still but my training is about where I wanted it to be at this stage of the season."
A massive effort by the support staff over the past week meant that both Russell and Jake had been able to get some preparation miles in over the past few days on their new Kovert FX-Pro team bikes. Russell said,
"The bike felt really stiff! I'm not sure if this was the carbon frame or the new 35mm bars and stem or the 38mm carbon Fluid wheels but they all connected with me really well. Although it was cold I felt really good and the Vittoria Corsa CX tubs gripped really well in the conditions."
